Android Limitations

Yodeck for Android supports most Yodeck features, but a few work differently than on the Yodeck Player (Raspberry Pi). Check these limitations before you choose Android devices for your screens.

At a glance

Feature

Status

What it means

Turning the TV on and off (CEC)

❌ Not supported

When a schedule turns the screen off, Android shows a black screen instead. The TV stays powered on.

Security settings

❌ Not supported

Custom certificates, SSH access and storage encryption aren't available.

Sound output selection

❌ Not supported

You can't choose HDMI, analog, auto or muted from Yodeck. The device uses its own audio setting.

USB to HDMI video capture

❌ Not supported

Live video input from a USB capture device can't be shown.

Web pages in layouts

⚠️ Works differently

Web pages always display on top of other content in the same region. See below.

Network settings

🕒 Temporarily unavailable

WiFi, Ethernet, 4G USB dongle and firewall settings can't be managed from Yodeck yet.

Screen resolution

🕒 Temporarily unavailable

Resolution and refresh rate can't be changed from Yodeck yet.

Time settings

🕒 Temporarily unavailable

Time zone and NTP server can't be set from Yodeck yet.

💡 Need network, resolution or time changes now? Set them in the Android device's own settings menu. Yodeck uses whatever the device is configured with.

Web pages in layouts

On Android, web pages always render on top of all other items in the same region, regardless of the layer order you set in the layout. You can't place a web page behind or between other media.

If your design needs something to appear over a web page, such as a logo or a ticker, put it in a separate region that doesn't overlap the web page.

Temporary limitations

We're working on these and will update this page when they're available:

  • Network settings: WiFi, Ethernet, 4G USB dongle and firewall

  • Screen resolution: resolution and refresh rate

  • Time settings: time zone and NTP server
