Quickly connect your Yodeck player to your WiFi network by using the WiFi wizard

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Yodeck players require a stable Wi-Fi connection to stay synced and receive updates. In cases where the previous WiFi network is unavailable, alternative methods must be used to bring devices back online. These solutions range from directly accessing the player via a keyboard to temporarily using an Ethernet connection.

How-to Video

First things first

You must first enter the relevant Wi-Fi credentials for the network you want to pair the Yodeck player with.

If you cannot access the players via the dashboard because the old network is unavailable, alternative methods, such as an Ethernet cable or direct keyboard access, may be required.

  1. Click the player's name and go to the Network tab.

  2. Toggle the "Enable WiFi" option to ON and enter the credentials in the corresponding fields.

  3. After typing, click the "Save" button at the end of the form.

πŸ’‘If you use a simple network (SSID/Password) as a WiFi mode, please use the WPA/WPA2 option.

Step-by-step procedure

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Wireless and MAC keyboards won't work with the WiFi wizard. Please use a standard wired USB keyboard.

  1. Plug the USB keyboard into any player's 4 USB ports, then press Ctrl+Alt+F12 simultaneously.

    • ⚠️ To initiate the WiFi wizard for the Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to hit CTRL+ALT+F10 instead.

    • πŸ’‘ Any USB port on the player will work.

  2. Wait 4-10 seconds for the wizard screen to appear.

    • πŸ’‘Do not press any other keys during this time. If nothing appears after 10 seconds, try unplugging and reconnecting your keyboard, then try again.

What password do I need to type now?

  1. Log in to your Yodeck account.

  2. Click the player's name, then navigate to the Advanced -> Security tab.

  3. Find the password in the Remote Support Password field. It will be an 8-digit password.

    • πŸ’‘ Quick Tip: If you see dots (β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’) instead of the password, you need to type the password you originally set, not the dots. If you don't remember it, you'll need to use an Ethernet cable instead.

  4. Type the password using the keyboard, then press Enter.

    • πŸ’‘Respect capital letters as well. The password is case-sensitive!

    • πŸ’‘You can also configure an Enterprise WiFi network (EAP).

  2. Type the Wi-Fi password and press Enter.

    • πŸ’‘The password is case-sensitive.

  3. The player will attempt to connect to that Wireless network.

    • πŸ’‘If the WiFi credentials are correct, the player should connect without issues.

  4. By clicking the "Yes" option, the player will save the WiFi settings and apply the new configuration.

    • πŸ’‘You will notice a blinking message "Configuring." Do not reboot the player at this state. The player is applying the new configuration.

FAQ

If the connection fails?

  • Verify the WiFi password is correct (case-sensitive)

  • Check you selected WPA/WPA2 for standard networks

  • Move the player closer to the router for a stronger signal

  • If the network is hidden, press F2 to add it manually

  • Try an Ethernet cable as an alternative

Re-enabling an Old SSID:

If possible, restore the previous SSID and its credentials so the players can reconnect automatically.

Ethernet Connection:

Temporarily connect the player using an Ethernet cable to manually update the WiFi credentials from the Yodeck dashboard.

My password is in this form: "β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’". What do I need to type now?

Remote Support Password

You can find the Remote Support password in your player's advanced settings in the Security tab. The password is hashed for security reasons if it is in this form: "β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’". You must type the password you previously set, without the hash. If you do not remember the Remote Support password you previously set, you will need an Ethernet cable to reconnect the player to the internet.

How do I change the Remote Support Password?

The player needs to be online to make this change. If you forget the password you set, retype a new one and click "Save." You will notice a 'Configuring' message at the bottom of your screen. After the message disappears, try initiating the WiFi Wizard again and enter the password you set.

How do I add a hidden WiFi network?

After logging into the wizard, if the wireless network is hidden, it won't appear after a scan. You can press F2 on your keyboard to manually add the hidden network.

I cannot see the WiFi network in the scanning list

  • The player is unable to connect to the specific wireless network. Move the player or the router/access point closer to each other.

  • The specific WiFi network is hidden.

Most common causes

  • You're too far from the router - Move the player within 10-15 feet and try again

  • The network is hidden - Press F2 during the wizard to manually enter the network name."
